New Dehli, India: GE PACS

Indraprastha Apollo Hospital New Delhi has been deploying GE PACS since January 2007. According to Senior Consultant Dr. VS Rawat, GE PACS has been instrumental in bringing about a workflow change to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital’s radiology department by digitizing the image handling, reducing the turnaround time and improving the overall efficiency of the department.

“There are lots of advantages that GE PACs has given us if compared to the way we were doing reporting, diagnosis and carrying out our workflow in our radiology department,” says Dr. Rawat.

“Due to GE PACS, the time required for reporting has reduced drastically. We get additional functionalities that are present in GE workstations for image processing and diagnosis for more accurate and comprehensive reporting, compared to the diagnosis that we were doing through films. We are able to see better details than what we can in the films,” he adds.

Through GE PACS, consultants and physicians in various departments throughout the hospital can access patient records and images simply through a click of a button on their respective PCs on their desks, reducing patient wait times. They can also compare historical exams of patients, resulting in more accurate diagnosis.

GE PACS EA/RA600 Ver 2.1.further brings these advantage to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital:
  • Enhanced image diagnosis capability through the extensive tool-set of RA 600 workstation; resulting in greater patient safety and faster reporting time.
  • Seamless image distribution across the hospital facility for image review by the Consultants / Physicians through Centricity Web; resulting in information being available at the point of patient contact.
  • Ease of use, convenient and intuitive controls on the graphic user interface have made the transition from film to digital a logical choice
  • Image management and fast retrieval rates are ensured by the PACS application thus reducing administrative glitches
  • System up-time is ensured by onsite / online engineers maintaining the system proactively and thus reducing the CTR time.
Dr. Rawat is also quick to point out that despite all its advanced features, the GE PACS user interface is easy to use and convenient.

“The controls are intuitive, user friendly, straightforward and easy to learn. This allows Indraprastha Apollo Hospital staff to operate a safer patient environment with faster turnaround times,” says Dr. Rawat.

With all the above benefits, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital has since experienced significant gains in productivity efficiency.

Aided by GE PACS, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital New Delhi is now progressively adapting to the advanced workflow and envisioning a true filmless environment.
